Lockdown Tales Activity:
The Green Grass GRew (early years and KS1)

We thought you might like to sing this song, after hearing Julia recite the verses.

Listen to the tune first, played by twelve-year-old Amyrah Kihl.
It starts with the tree in this version. Someone leads it and everyone copies (the green words). Then you all sing together where it says 'chorus'.

There was a tree There was a tree
In the middle of a wood In the middle of a wood
The prettiest tree The prettiest tree
That you ever did see That you ever did see

(chorus)
The tree was in the wood
And the green grass grew
all around, all around
And the green grass grew all around.

Now on that tree Now on that tree
There was a branch There was a branch
The prettiest branch The prettiest branch
That you ever did see That you ever did see

(chorus)
The branch was on the tree,
The tree was in the wood,
And the green grass grew
all around, all around
And the green grass grew all around.

Now on that branch Now on that branch
There was a nest There was a nest
The prettiest nest The prettiest nest
That you ever did see That you ever did see

(chorus)
The nest was on the branch
The branch was on the tree,
The tree was in the wood
And the green grass grew
all around, all around
And the green grass grew all around.

Now in that nest Now in that nest
There was an egg There was an egg
The prettiest egg The prettiest egg
That you ever did see That you ever did see

(chorus)
The egg was in the nest,
The nest was on the branch,
The branch was on the tree
The tree was in the wood
And the green grass grew
All around and around
The green grass grew all around.

Now in that egg Now in that egg
There was a bird There was a bird
The prettiest bird The prettiest bird
That you ever did see That you ever did see

(chorus)
The bird was in the egg,
And the egg was in the nest,
And the nest was on the branch,
And the tree was in the wood
And the green grass grew
all around, all around
And the green grass grew all around
