THE LAST WOODWOSE PROJECT
WANT TO HELP US MAKE MAGIC IN THE WOODS?
We are continually fundraising to meet all the costs of a project that has grown, like an oak tree, into something much bigger than its acorn beginnings. Funding so far for both the tour and outreach has been given kindly by The Scarfe Charitable Trust, Leiston and Sizewell Community Fund, Association for Suffolk Museums, The Marchus Charitable Trust, Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust, Fitton Trust, Suffolk County Council Locality Budget, and private donations, for which we are immensely grateful. The result of an Arts Council bid towards the production is pending but we need to raise another £15,000 to bring the full tour to fruition.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
Thea’s story is the spark that has lit the torch for our ambitious and illuminating outreach project, I Am a Woodwose, which is providing unique opportunities for local children in state education to learn about history, ecology and the arts as well as to contribute to and then see the finished result in the form of the play. Under the wings of I Am a Woodwose, children are leaving classrooms, learning words on the brink of extinction and discovering their own human vulnerability in a fragile natural world. Our project invites creativity and changing perspectives, outward and forward looking through the lens, lessons and imagery of their own local history. Young and old, families, local museums, churches, woodland guardians and schools in our local communities are all benefitting from this project, which concludes with the touring production: the event in which everything the children have learned about is brought together in an extraordinary tour of outdoor and unusual venues, bringing the magic of the woodwose and all she faces to life.
