The Milk White Ocean

Beeja Dance Company and Wonderful Beast

Victoria and Albert Museum, Nehru Gallery, November 28th 2004

This dance and storytelling performance was part of the exhibition ‘The Meeting of Asia and Europe 1500 – 1800’. About two hundred visitors gathered around the gallery to enjoy an intriguing interpretation of this Indian myth. A careless gesture by the Lord of the Skies brings disintegration and war to the earth. The Gods appeal to Vishnu to help them defeat the Demons. He tells them they must churn the nectar of immortality from the milk white ocean if they are to save themselves and return the earth to its former self.

Performed by baratanatyam dancer Anusha Subramanyam, musicians R R Prathap (mrudangam), Jyotsna Srikantha (violini), actor Annie Firbank - narrator. Directed by Alys Kihl.

The Draught of Fishes and other Stories

Raphael Gallery, December 4th 2004

The seven famous cartoons by Raphael were the setting and the inspiration for a storytelling and dance performance revealing the mysteries and similarities between the myths and beliefs of the east and the west. These stories from the Bible were narrated by Janet Henfrey.
