Abiyoyo and The
Musicians of Bremen

directed by Kathryn Boddy

“This show should go on forever and tour all around the world … I could
watch it over and over again..”
Adrian Mitchell

Southwark Playhouse, Tricycle Theatre, BAC, The Norfolk and Norwich Fringe Theatre Festival, October 2003 (2003-4)

Abiyoyo
A beautiful tale from South
Africa, adapted by Pete
Seeger in the 60s, tells the
story of a little boy who
loves to play the ukelele
and of his father who loves
practical jokes. The
townspeople grow tired of
their noise and tricks and
banish them. When
Abiyoyo, the terrible giant,
appears, the outcasts come
up with a plan to save the
town…

Using Pete Seeger’s original song played live on the ukelele.

The Musicians of Bremen
The popular story from the Brothers Grimm, about four discarded animals who decide to change
their fates. On their way to Bremen they defeat a band of robbers with their cacophonous
music to become the heralded heroes of the town.

''We so enjoyed the show - such energy and committment. Ernie loved the monster bit best and Walter loved the robber bit best and I loved it all. So impressed." Sophie Thompson.

''Fantastic! We loved it! We`ll come again and again." Kathleen and Miriam (age 6) Broderick

Live and original music by Sasha Mitchell with Nick Pyall on the accordion.

Two actors. One musician. Plenty of audience participation.

“..fantastic theatre for children with lots of noise and fun - there should be
more of this stuff for kids around”
Tracey Emin

Letters from Jubilee Primary School, Hackney

I like the donkey bekus he said eeor eeor eeor. There was one girl and two boys and I like the robbers. I like it when Abiyoyo sings to his own song. I like to sing along.

I liked it when the woman was the cockeral. She was funny when she put her hand on her head and made a cockeral noise. Is it hard doing shows and are you swety when you do them? But Abiyoyo was the funnier. I liked it when Abiyoyo was dancing to the music that was my favourite. When Abiyoyo thought the apples were small because he was big that was funny too.

My favourite part is when the giant came to the cows and ate them. When the boy played his guitar the giant darnses along. And then the boys farther made the giant fall down to the ground. And make him go away.
